The Block House

Nestled in a dense urban plot in Chennai, The Block House is a striking response to a unique design challenge. The project involved demolishing a 40-year-old front house while retaining a slightly newer rear structure, leaving a tight footprint of under 1000 sq. ft. for the new build. Despite spatial constraints, the design successfully integrates four bedrooms, a living and dining area, a kitchen, and four car parking spaces—all within a rigorous timeline of just nine months.

Maximizing vertical space and efficient planning were key to making this project a reality. The structure is a bold yet minimal expression of form, balancing openness and privacy while ensuring seamless circulation. With thoughtful material choices and a focus on functionality, The Block House stands as a testament to smart urban living, overcoming both logistical and design challenges with ingenuity.
